Leaky Supply Line Causes Water Damage in Largo Condo

The Before Photo shows the amount of water damage and mold growth that happened in this Largo condominium while the property owners were out of town. A supply line leak left the hardwood floorboards covered in mold colonies and appear to have wet areas throughout. SERVPRO techs removed the baseboard to expose the mold infestation behind it, also discoloring the wallpaper near the floor.

Following the Path of the Water Damage in Largo Homes

One of the best reasons to engage the services of a water damage restoration services company for a Largo property is that not all water is visible within a structure. Once free from a supply line, the water can travel down walls, under flooring, and wind up in surprising areas away from the origination spot. SERVPRO technicians use different types of moisture detection equipment to map out the migration path of the moisture under floors, behind walls, and within the floor joists between levels when needed. This means no water gets left within the Largo condo, with the potential to cause more damage at a future time.

Dealing with Mold Damage in Largo Properties

During the scoping of the water damage, SERVPRO techs found a large amount of mold damage that required remediation. One of the first actions taken is to contain the area, so any airborne mold spores do not travel within the ductwork or other home areas.

The long-term leak left a significant amount of moisture within the flooring, which seeped into the subfloor. SERVPRO technicians removed the floorboards to expose the subfloor and dry it. There are different types of drying equipment the techs rely on for this type of remediation. Air movers deliver high-velocity airstreams that force embedded moisture to rise and are great for ensuring that absorbent building materials get dry to the core. For wet subfloor, air movers are a good choice and drying mats that concentrate the airflow into a specific area. For small area drying, SERVPRO techs sometimes create tents using plastic to seal off an area and force warm, dry air into the "tent." A dehumidifier is also connected to this set-up and ports away water vapor as it rises.

Along with extensive training for handling water damage in Largo properties, SERVPRO techs are certified in applied microbial remediation technicians (AMRT) and can neutralize any size mold damage issue. They use drying techniques along with professional antimicrobial and antifungal solutions. As seen in the After Photo, the kitchen got an updated look. The homeowner had new flooring installed and opted for a freshly painted wall instead of the wallpaper that was up before.
